The original is made from patterned paper, 1857 ink-washed railway ledger paper, and 1931 farmer’s logbook

Kids do the darnedest things sometimes.  Take the paper that I used for water in this collage.  I found this beautiful antique composition book from 1931.  It was used by a farmer to keep track of his expenses (bloomers, rocking horse, rabbit, ribbons for hat, etc.) and the breeding schedule of his animals.  But then his kid found it.

There are pencil scribbles all through the notebook, obviously made by a toddler.  No attempt was made at capturing reality, it was purely joyful abstraction.  It’s fun to think that that little kid might still be alive today and in his 90s.  I hope he had a wonderful life.
