My Pride and Joy
Picture it: The year is 1982. The place is Ryerson State Park, and the person is an old guy who was a friend of my mother’s. He asks me rather casually if I want to see his pride and joy.
I don’t remember really wanting to see a picture of his grandkids or whatever, but here we were. I said yes.
And out of his wallet came this gag photograph of two bottles of cleaning products that were popular at the time: Pride furniture polish and Joy dish detergent.
I remember his mirthful look to this day. This is how we passed along memes in the 1980s.
