1950s wallpaper, tea stained graph paper and ledger paper on 1950s Tastee-Freez blueprints
I’ve been making lots of collages with these same shapes. I don’t know why I’m so drawn to this arrangement and these materials. Remember in Close Encounters when Richard Dreyfuss felt compelled to make sculptures of a mesa shape? It’s kind of like that.
I usually use materials from several different eras in each piece, but this one is focused on the 1950s. The blueprint is one of my favorite things: a drawing of a 1950s Tastee-Freez. And the wallpaper came from my grandmother’s house. She had a sample book of all kinds of floral and kitchen themed wallpapers. I used the front and the back of the wallpaper in this collage. Trying not to make it too busy.
