This is a large giclée print on heavy archival matte paper.
The original is made from chalk paint on ledgers, ink-washed 1880s railway shares, 1857 ledgers, blueprints and player piano paper.
I love showing this collage at art festivals. I ask people if they know what the sand is made of and nobody ever does. Some people guess computer punch cards, but that is pretty far off.
It’s player piano paper, of course. Hence the title of the piece. The perforations are what told the piano what keys to play. And the lyrics were printed on the side. Just like karaoke.
